GETTING AROUND AUSTINBURG, OH

Austinburg, Ohio is conveniently located at the intersection of state routes 45 and 307, which makes both reaching Austinburg and traveling around it rather easy and convenient. Private buses and shuttles run by local services connect Austinburg with other Lake Erie – Geneva area locations as well as offering services within Austinburg itself.

The public shuttle offers pick-up and drop-off at Sleep Inn, Rt 45, Austinburg, Ohio; Holiday Inn, Rt. 45, Austinburg, Ohio; Comfort Inn and Suites, Austinburg Rd, and Americas Best Value, ( across from Flying J Truck Plaza, North of Interstate Rt. 90) , Austinburg, Ohio. These are convenient locations for tourists who come to the area to visit local wineries, and the shuttles also stop in nearby, scenic Geneva-On-The-Lake

Greyhound buses pick up and drop off passengers in nearby Erie, Pennsylvania and taxis as well as shuttles and buses are available to transport passengers to and from the Greyhound bus stops. At present it is possible to call Greyhound (800-231-2222) to make prepaid arrangements for pickup in Austinburg, but there is no permanent bus stop in the immediate area.

The nearest Amtrak stations are also in either Erie, PA or Cleveland, OH, and once again it is necessary to either arrange for a local bus, shuttle or taxi company to provide transportation to Austinburg or to rent a car which allows for convenient access to the area via state highways that intersect there. Austinburg, Ohio is a quiet and isolated township in a rural region that nevertheless is conveniently located for access by car from Cleveland or Erie, and it does offer local public shuttle service on a regular basis that indeed is convenient to reach all local tourist destinations. Nearby Chalet Debonne and Ferrante wineries not only have award winning wines in a variety of prices, but also have tasty foods to chose from on their extensive menus. Austinburg’s first winery, Farinaci Winery, only sells wine amd a few items to go with it, but also has a bed and breakfast that may be booked ahead of time.

For those interested in geology, whether amatuer or more advanced, Noema Rocks and Gems in Austinburg, is sure to catch one’s eye with their natural rocks and minerals, fossils, books, and handcrafted jewelry. A mining area is fun for young and old alike.

Students attending school at the prestigious Grand River Academy in Austinburg, Ohio, don’t have far to travel to get to the Ashtabula Town Square, formerly Ashtabula Mall. Shoppers can find Sears, Kmart, Penneys, various nationwide jewelry and clothing stores, as well as eateries. Young and old can see a movie at the multiplex cinema.

The newly built Smolen Covered Bridge, the longest in the United States, is also close by. However, Austinburg also has its own old covered bridges, and many local vendors depict scenes of all these on their wares. Antiques are also very popular in Austinburg. Location approximately halfway between Erie, Pa. and Cleveland, Oh. makes this an ideal place to absorb small town shopping. If a quick snack or drink is desired Shannon’s Mini Mart has friendly staff with some home made snacks to munch. ATTRACTIONS NEAR AUSTINBURG

Austinburg, OH rests at the northeast tip of this Midwestern state. This small community hosts a population of approximately 2200 people and was named after its founder, Judge Aliphalet Austin. Although visitors to Austinburg may travel to this part for personal reasons, the area boasts of a number of fun and interesting activities for both adults and children.

Golf lovers will enjoy a visit and a round at Maple Ridge Golf Course. Two separate skill levels are tested on its 18-hole, 6000 yard course. Power carts are available in the Clubhouse along with a snack bar and lounge, pro shop and equipment repair options. Look for their regular promotions including Couple’s Night and Twilight Specials.

Indulge in an afternoon or evening, sampling local wine at the Farinacci Winery. An impressive selection of whites, reds and ice wine awaits you. Guests are also invited to stay at the small bed and breakfast right on property which includes a continental breakfast. Only one room is available so it is best to call ahead in order to ensure you can enjoy this truly unique experience.

Play with the family at Adventure Zone, located in nearby Geneva, OH. Not your typical amusement park, kids and adults alike can work up a sweat on the 50-foot climbing wall or test your putting skills on the gracefully landscaped miniature golf course. Batting cages are available for both baseball and softball enthusiasts and you can race the night away in a racing car along a 1000 foot track.

Approximately 26 miles outside of Austinburg, travelers can go back in time at the James A. Garfield National Historical Site in Mentor, OH. Tours are available seasonally of this large, 20-room farmhouse acquired in 1876 by Garfield to accommodate his wife and their family of five children.

Bellflower Park, also located in the Mentor area, contains a picnic area, sports fields for soccer and baseball as well as a water spray park that’s open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A wonderful outing on a hot summer’s day, laugh along as over a dozen water spigots, some in delightful shapes, spray delighted children within an area of 3000 square feet.
